New Addition!!!! ( Koolatron Micro Fridge )

New Addition to Area 51's Concessions....

The Koolatron KWC-4 Micro Fridge.... It can Hold a 6 pack of standard 12oz Cans, but i keep a few 8oz mini cans of coke, and some Coconut Water or Mini Odwala/Naked Juice. It Cools very well, I had to replace the Coolling fan. The one that comes with the unit is a standard Computer fan, it worked well but it was a little to LOUD for my Theater Atmosphere in Area 51, so i replaced it with a Higher Quality Lower RPM Super-Quiet Fan, and now i can barely hear it sitting a couple feet away with the room totally quiet. I got it for around $40 on Amazon, and its worth every penny.... Now i don't have to miss a second of my movie to go downstairs and get a Drink. Kudos to Koolatron for making a great little fridge....

Heads Up, Panasonic Plasma Owners....

Heads up guys, if you own a Panasonic Plasma from 2011-2012 and your TV start Buzzing REALLY!! REALLY!! LOUD!!! (Yes all plasmas have a slight buzz and hum, thats normal, but this could be heard well above the content playing on the TV at a louder than normal volume.) & Yes the Buzzing/Whining increase with the brightness of the Picture, the brighter the picture the louder the buzz. Dont be fooled thinking its a Hardware problem with the TV, it could be but This Buzz is Most likely caused by screws loosening inside the panel, screws that hold the boards in place. During this batch of TV's, Panasonic didn't use lock washers on some or all of these screws, so over time they slowly back out and the boards start to vibrate. The noise can come from any spot on the back of the Tv depending on what screws came loose & what board is vibrating, Left/Right Side, Top/Bottom. If your TV starts to do this and your under warranty then No Prolem, just call it in and let the tech come out and take care of it, but if your out of warranty like ME, I recommend before you take it in or call for service, you can save yourself alot of money ($100+ dollars) by doing what i did. I spent a couple nights doing the research, and came across a very helpful forum, this was a VERY common issue. You can take the panel off the back of your plasma and inspect it yourself.. at the end ill link a video....

(Yes its perfectly safe & Easy, you wont ruin your tv.... if you have every used a screwdriver and opened up something to look inside, then you more than qualified..)

With that said, most people had their TV on the Stand it came with, this is the best case scenario, all you have to do it get behind it, unscrew 20 or so screws and remove the back panel (Be VERY CAREFUL!!!, the edges of the panel are sharp, and its very light so no need for another person.) Inspect All the screws that hold the boards in place, some or all of them will be loose. You have 3 options at this point..

1: ( I did this one :) )You can just tighten them up, (Do Not Overtighten!!) if they are loose, tighten them until they seat, and that's it, don't for it.... BAM!! your done. The Buzzing Was COMPLETELY GONE!!! just like NEW!!!!

2: Order your replacement screws with the lock washers, or get some Anti-Seize compound and dab a little at the end of each screw and tighten them back down. This is the Optimal Fix, as the screws should not back out after this (on Option 1, I didn't have Anti Seize compound so ill have to open up my TV again at some point in the Future)

3: If your nervous about opening the back of your TV, then suck it up and get it repaired... probably a minimum of $80 to look at it + the cost Parts (Screws) & Repair time.

Now if your TV is Wall Mounted or Mounted on a Special Stand like mine, your gonna have to obviously take it off the Wall/Stand. I put a Huge blanket on my Futon/Sofa and placed the TV Face First into the blanket, i would recommend leaving the TV in a Vertical Position, that way nothing happens to your Screen (That is why i used a blanket to cover the face & cushion it). Then proceed with one of the steps (1, 2 or 3)

Here is the video i talked about....
